Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and television actress who is known for her role as the spirited lawyer Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. The actress is known under her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. While growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always fascinated by acting. In a Maryland high school competition during her first years of education she received the award for the most outstanding actress. She earned her acting degree from the New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company', as well as on stage. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love brought her an award for best-in-class roles. It was followed by other films like 'Boogie Nights Spark' and Blue Streak. Contractor who was born in Mumbai and lived in Nigeria during seven years had a wide range of trips and experiences in the world of culture at very young. She attended boarding school in London between seven and nine years old, then her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her early childhood and adulthood. Contractor was a wonderful student in Toronto and was trained as the classical ballet dancer. She was enrolled in the Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is a specialized high school that teaches arts in which she didn't just take classes in theater but also performed as well. Contractor began her acting career at 16 after completing a total of 10 years in dance. When she graduated from high school she received a full-time award to Toronto's University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in theatre and a double major in psychology and sociology. Contractor was offered the leading character in Pericles following a brief time at the University. The audition was held for the role in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. Her performance was lauded for the 92 shows which she was a part of. The play won her an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year by Canadian critics. The conservatory at Stratford accepts eight men as well as four females and a handful of other people for a 20 weeks crash course. Contractor's place in the following play season was secured and she won the role as Hermia.
